Spring into action

In June we held a series of events for those interested in our Community Learning Programme. Designed for community organisations across Birmingham, they discussed how to work more sustainably, and how to engage communities in taking positive environmental action.

They can now be viewed below.

Community Gardening

Learn about the benefits of community gardening and how we can help you with setting up and running your own community growing space. Jackie discusses Allens Cross Community Garden and its journey over the 6 years since it started. We are also joined by Lynda from Vegan Vybes who set up a community garden in Handsworth with the help of ecobirmingham’s Power2Grow project.

Community Cycling

This session discusses the impact of cycling tuition, how to build confidence, the role of community cycling clubs, and how they help get more people pedalling and bring communities together. We are joined by Nikki who took part in Level 2 BikeAbility cycling tuition with us to raise her cycling confidence. She has since gone on to be an inspirational Ride Leader for Cannon Hill Cycling Club.

Energy

We are joined by sustainability and energy expert Phil Beardmore who shares some of the work he has done with community groups and organisations to become more energy efficient, as well as some simple and low-cost energy saving actions. He also discusses how organisations can understand and alleviate fuel poverty in their communities.

Waste and recycling

In this session explore some low-cost actions your community organisation can do to reduce their waste and encourage others too. We share simple solutions we have in our Northfield office and hear from Lizzie Moran, Head of Technical Resources and Green Champion at MAC (Midlands Arts Centre) about their experiences of reducing waste within their team and organisation.

If you are interested in finding out how we can help your community group or organisation become more environmentally friendly, please get in touch.
