Wild Holiday Bunch – creative outdoor holiday club for 7-11 years old nature explorers

The Wild Holiday Bunch is ecobirmingham’s popular holiday scheme for children aged 7-11 years old. It provides a safe and supportive environment for children to explore the world at their doorstep and themselves while learning new skills.

Now in its fourth year Wild Holiday Bunch has traditionally been delivered at Masefield Community Garden, a RHS winning garden in Northfield. In 2018 we additionally delivered three days at the magical world of Martineau Gardens in Edgbaston.

This summer, in partnership with Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust, we are bringing you not three, not six, but ten full exciting Wild Holiday Bunch days spent outdoors in a wild and stunning new location. Deer’s Leap Woods in North Edgbaston is managed by the B&BC Wildlife Trust and contains a wonderful mix of informal woodland, ponds and meadow areas. Read more about the site here. We can’t wait to discover all the site’s secrets with you!

At Wild Holiday Bunch, each day is packed with plenty of sensory activities, exciting games to learn about our wildlife and our environment, fun gardening projects & creative natural crafts.

Examples of past activities involved exploring the site following mysterious trails, using clay to make paint and create amazing artefacts, making our own charcoal pencils and become natural artists,  being Native Americans for one day, creating a natural fashion show with the flora available on site, learning about the trees and their legends, story-telling, and much much more…

In 2017 we introduced more nature-inspired art to work on Arts Award Discover level. Children were able to learn about environmental art and obtain a nationally recognised certificate.

And naturally there will always be enough time for the ever favourite den-building and camp fire cooking!

Family Wild Bunch – Outdoor quality time for all

While waiting for our Wild Holiday Bunch to return this summer, we’re very excited to announce that our Family Wild Bunch monthly sessions are back to Masefield. See below for dates and how to book on the sessions.

Family Wild Bunch are recommended for children aged 3-8 accompanied by a grown up and will contain a mix of site exploration to learn about wildlife, natural crafts, snacks on the fire, games and reviewing time. See our flyer for more information.

Wild Holiday Bunch & Family Wild Bunch are run by our experienced Level 3 Forest School practitioners with the help of enthusiastic DBS checked volunteers. Meet some of our staff here!
