Earth Overshoot Day

Earth Overshoot Day is announced on 5 June to demonstrate when the world would run out of resources if everyone on the planet lived like the average person in the UK.

We are consuming much more than the earth can cope with. For the world as a whole, the Earth Overshoot Day last year was 1st August. However, for the United Kingdom, ours came much sooner, our Overshoot Day in 2025 was 20th May, 2 weeks earlier than 2024 and it’s worsening! Find out more.

Earth Overshoot Day Calculated for the UK and the rest of the world.

60% of our overshoot in resources is related to our carbon emissions, with the rest accumulating from agriculture, built environment, material consumption and travel.

The good news is that we already have the technology to shave 21 days off our Overshoot Day by simply switching to greener energy sources. This year we invite you to make changes in your home that are not just better for the planet but also better for your wallet!

How can you save money by switching?

  • Visit our Energy Saving FAQs site – by visiting our website, you can read our tips for using more renewable energy sources at home.

  • Consider installing solar panels and a heat source air pump – grants are available for homeowners of up to £7,500. We know this might not be a good option for everyone, but don’t worry there are plenty more. See if you could be eligible.
  • Adding window, radiator and cavity insulation – we have energy saving packs available at our energy saving drop-ins which can help you reduce the energy costs of your home.

We are here to help. If you have further questions, or would like a free, personal, in-depth energy advice session, please get in touch with Jason and we will get back to you to discuss your situation more to find the best possible solution for you.
