We are currently working with theatre company C&T on a new environmental and heritage project across South Birmingham.
The project, at the moment called Secret Birmingham, will produce a mobile app which gives a digital guided cycling tour of heritage sites in the South of the city.
C&T will hold sessions in Edgbaston, Stirchley and Balsall Heath to gather stories from locals. We want to not only gather well known facts and stories about the area, but personal stories about their links to these heritage sites. Members of each community will be invited to oral history capturing workshops, in order record personal memories and testimonials into oral history recordings.
With the Commonwealth Games coming to Birmingham in 2022, we look to use this project as a pilot for further ways to engage the public in accessing local cultural sites and organisations through sustainable means.
During November and December we held a series of consultations and workshops on capturing oral histories in Balsall Heath, Stirchley and Edgbaston. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the project so far. We’ve had a fantastic response and have discovered so much about South Birmingham which we look forward to sharing with you in due course.
We will now be filming and interviewing locals about the area. If you have a story to tell and would like to contribute to the project, please do contact us on cycling@ecobirmingham.com
