Anne – Creative Learning Project Coordinator

Anne, creative learning project coordinator

Creative learning being the education projects at ecobirmingham, working with children and their grown-ups to inspire them to take small sustainable actions and connect with the natural world together.

Fun Fact: I usually talk to bugs, calling them “little guys” when kneeling down at the allotment.

Sustainable Living – Top Tip – Have a go at growing some edible plants. Herbs are particularly easy and so rewarding for you (visually as well as in your herbal tea or dishes!) and so attractive to pollinators! Why not create a gorgeous herb planter for your front garden or balcony!

What are you most looking forward to or excited about this year? There are a lot of new things happening this year but my top 2 are the permanent bird trail, created by local children, and coming up to Sparkhill Park this summer as well as new sessions at the hidden gem of ancient woodland, Pitts Wood in Quinton and our popular Stories 4 Nature for preschoolers at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Cannon Hill Park.

Kam – CEO

Fun Fact: I’m also a Yoga teacher and often like to stand on my head when I’m not on my feet!

Sustainable Living – Top Tip – Something I say to myself every morning is – What am I going to do today to be kinder to the planet? It can be challenging and overwhelming when we consider the planet and the impact, but if as human beings we can be accountable where possible for our own actions whether they are big or small, it will contribute and small habits done consistently make a difference!

What are you most looking forward to or excited about this year? I look forward to every day in my role, I love our work, the passion and the energy the team bring on a daily basis makes everyday impactful

Jason – Energy Project Coordinator

Jason, Energy Projects Coordinator, ecobirmingham

Fun Fact: If you do all ecobirminghams Top 11 Tips, you can save over £400 a year on your energy bills.

Sustainable Living – Top Tip – If your radiators are on external walls, put radiator reflector foil behind them to increase their heat by 40%. This will make the room warmer quicker, stay warmer for longer, and reduce the need to have the heating on a higher setting.

What are you most looking forward to or excited about this year? I am looking forward to supporting the people of Birmingham to feel warmer and more comfortable in their homes whilst saving money and carbon emissions through many drop-in sessions and presentations on energy saving, damp and mould, and much more.

Jeanette – Project Coordinator – Building Greener Communities

Jeanette – Project Coordinator – Building Greener Communities

Helping local residents discover practical ways to live more sustainably through community events such as cooking workshops, clothes swaps and repair activities.

Fun Fact: I’m passionate about reducing waste and I co-run The Clean Kilo zero waste shop in Bournville.

Sustainable Living – Top Tip – Start small and choose one small action at a time. Don’t feel like you need to do everything at once or perfectly – what you do is better than no action at all. Lots of people taking small actions can add up to make a big difference!

What are you most looking forward to or excited about this year? I’m excited about launching our new events, particularly The Repair & Share Hub in Sparkhill in July. It will be a welcoming space where people can repair items, share skills and resources, swap items and connect with others in the community!

Emily – Fundraising and Sustainability Coordinator

Emily – Fundraising and Sustainability Coordinator

Fun Fact:  I love Dahlias, and I recently found out that they were originally brought over to the UK as a food source. You can eat their tubers (if you grow them yourself) as you would with any other root vegetable.

Sustainable Living – Top Tip – Have a look at our Sustainability toolkit on our website. It outlines actions you could take to make an positive impact and we provide resources and tips for each one so you know where to go around the city!

What are you most looking forward to or excited about this year? Working with more community organisations in Sparkhill and Allens Cross to implement ward wide green initiatives to work towards the sustainability action plans we launched in March. Helping organisations realise the work they are doing fits into sustainability targets and that they can celebrate this as a community asset.
